It’s Classic!

Calling all lovers of ancient Greece and Rome!

Bowman Library is thrilled to be hosting “It’s Classic!”, a series of fun, creative and informative workshops for middle schoolers.

The workshops will be presented by passionate classicist and Handley High School junior,Tashi Treadway, and are free of charge.

The first workshop “Mingling with Mythology” will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 2:00 to 3:00pm. Participants will explore the story of Athena and Arachnae and have a chance to paint their own ancient Greek style pottery.

athenaOn Saturday, February 15th, from 2:00 to 3:00pm, the workshop “Roaming with the Romans” will feature the story of Perseus and Medusa. Participants will also have the chance to try the art of mosaics.

perseus andmedusaOn Saturday, March 8th, from 2:00 to 3:00pm, the workshop “Working out with Words” will feature the story of Argus. There will also be an opportunity to write in the manner of the ancient Romans.

argusTashi Treadway has been studying Latin and the Classics since she was eleven years old. She has won many academic awards in Latin and Mythology, and has been an officer on the board of the Virginia Junior Classical League. Tashi aspires to become a Latin teacher and designed these workshops for her Girl Scout Gold Award project.
