Every year around April first, the International Edible Book Festival is held. Over twenty three countries have taken part in this delicious celebration of Jean Brillat-Savarin, a French gastronome who is famous for his book “Physiologie du gout – a witty meditation on food” and for being a founder of the food writing genre.
April first is Savarin’s birthday and, as it is also April Fool’s Day, it is a great time to play with and eat your words! Festival participants create edible versions of a loved book. The delicious creations are then judged and eaten!
Handley Library is delicious…um…delighted to be hosting our very own Edible Books competition! It is open to book eaters…um…book lovers aged five through 17 years.
Entries can be dropped off in the children’s room at Handley Library on Wednesday April 2nd, between 1:00pm and 4:30pm. Refreshments will be served at 5:00pm whilst the judges examine the gastronomic creations and then prizes will be awarded at 5:30pm.
All of the amazing edible books featured in this post were entrants in our competition from last year. We were amazed and delighted with the designs and creations and look forward to seeing what you will come up with this year!
