April 13th to 19th is National Library Week, a chance to celebrate libraries and the positive impact they have on their communities.
Every day across the country, libraries open their doors to everyone – children, adults, parents, teachers, writers, job seekers, gamers, movie lovers…the list is endless! In our community we are fortunate to be served by three great facilities and their teams of dedicated staff – Handley Library, Bowman Library and Clarke County Library.
This year, renowned children’s author Judy Blume is the honorary chair of National Library Week. Judy’s life was changed on the floor of the children’s room at the public library in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Here she found her first favorite books – books that would go on to inspire her as she created her own characters and stories – characters and stories that live in 28 books in 32 languages!
We’d love to celebrate library week with you. Join us at all libraries for a Readathon of picturebooks. The Readathon starts at 10:30am and finishes at 7:30pm.
- Monday April 14th at Bowman Library
- Tuesday April 15th at Handley Library
- Wednesday April 16th at Clarke County Library
Check out our Facebook page for more information on the special readers who are going to be helping with the Readathon.
Wednesday April 16th is Library Snapshot Day – a chance to record the great activities that regularly take place at our libraries. At Handley Library you will see the Readathon and a Teen Advisory Board Meeting. At Bowman Library we’ll be snapping preschool storytime and our middle school science program, Let’s Rock!
Click here to find out ways you can connect with the young readers in your house at the library. I know I’ve said it before, but regular library visits are a great tool in helping to develop lifelong readers 🙂
We’d love to hear how the library has changed your life. Tweet about it, leave a comment on our Facebook page or send us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the library this week. Thank you for your ongoing support 🙂
