Looking for a fun and educational activity to do with your kids this summer? A free summery storytime at Belle Grove may be just what you’re looking for. The first of Belle Grove’s Valley Reads special events brought out a crowd to enjoy stories and activities highlighting the house’s colonial history.
Handley Regional Library Children’s Librarian Donna Hughes and her assistant, Jane Smith, teamed up with Belle Grove’s own Karen Haizlett to share stories about life in colonial times.
Then Karen brought out colonial games, toys, and clothing for the children (and adults!) to play with and try on. Attendees were also provided with the opportunity to register right at Belle Grove for Valley Reads.
This was the first of five storytimes throughout the summer, each exploring a different aspect of Belle Grove’s beautiful grounds and long history. Come out and enjoy one of the upcoming storytimes:
Tuesday, June 23rd @ 10 a.m. — Reading in the garden
Thursday, July 9th @ 10 a.m. — Reading with a ranger
Tuesday, July 21st @ 10 a.m. — Reading in the barn
Thursday, August 6th @ 10 a.m. — Reading in the kitchen
More information about the upcoming events, as well as directions and information about Belle Grove Historic Plantation can be found on its website: Belle Grove Historic Plantation or connect with them on facebook: Belle Grove.
One of the great aspects of this year’s Valley Reads summer reading program is the many special events that are being hosted by local organizations, including Handley Regional Library.
