Teaming Up At the Library: Storytime @ Handley Regional Library

Teamwork storytime title card

As always, we here in Youth Services are here to partner with parents, caregivers, and teachers in the great work of educating and taking care of the children of our community.  We invite you to team up with us at Handley Regional Library for a week of storytimes teaching our children about the power of teamwork.  Here are a few of the stories, poems, and songs that we’ll be sharing this week, so you can keep singing, playing, reading, and laughing with your little ones at home.

Books to Share:

Book Jacket for: SwimmySwimmy  by Leo Lionni – JE Lionni

  • A little black fish in a school of red fish figures out a way of protecting them all from their natural enemies.

Book Jacket for: On the ballOn the ball by Brian Pinkney – JE Pinkney

  • “Owen loves soccer, but isn’t the best at playing it. After a particularly disastrous day on the field, Owen is benched. He is feeling so low that he doesn’t notice the ball rolling away from him until it’s too late. In his effort to get it back, he discovers that he has more skills than he realizes”

These books, and many more, are available at the Handley Regional Library.  Many of our collections of books on popular subjects are also available right here on the blog on the Booklists page and are also available in hardcopy at your library.

Three Balls
A little ball, a bigger ball,
And a great big ball I see
Now help me count them,
One, two, three!

The More We Get Together

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we’ll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we’ll be

The more we work together
Together, together
The more we work together
The happier we’ll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we work together
The happier we’ll be

Bouncing Ball
I’m bouncing, bouncing everywhere,
(make bouncing movements)
I’m bouncing, bouncing like a ball,
I bounce and bounce until I fall. (drop to the floor)

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out to the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don’t care if I ever get back
Let’s root, root, root for the home team
If they don’t win, it’s a shame
And it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out
At the old ballgame!

Five Little Fishies Swimming in the Sea
Five little fishies, swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark, “You can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr. Shark, quiet as can be
And snatches that fish right out of the sea!
(continue counting down)

The Big Fish

There was a big fish.
He lived in the sea.
He swam in the waves.
He jumped past the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn’t catch me.

We hope to see you at storytime!
