Songs, Poems, and Fingerplays to Share

 Cold Water Pokey

You dip your toe in
You dip your toe out
You dip your toe in
and you jump and scream and shout!  (shout: It’s so cold!)
You do the Cold Water Pokey
And you turn yourself around
That’s what it’s all about!  (clap! clap!)

(Continue with other body parts for each verse)

“Baby Beluga” is available at the library on Baby Beluga J CD Raffi

Baby Shark

Baby shark, (use finger and thumb as a shark mouth)
Doot-doo, doot-doo- doo-doo
Baby shark,
Doot-doo, doot-doo- doo-doo
Baby shark,
Doot-doo, doot-doo- doo-doo
Baby Shark!

Continue verses, replacing baby with:
Mommy Shark… (use two hands as a shark mouth)
Daddy shark… (use whole arm)
Grandma shark… (use hands with fingers curled inwards)
Going swimming… (swim with arms)
See a shark…
Swimming fast…
Safe at last…
Bye-bye shark…

The Sea
(Tune: Wheels on the Bus)
The waves on the sea go up and down,
up and down, up and down
The waves on the sea go up and down,
all day long.

The shark in the sea goes snap, snap, snap…
The crabs in the sea go pinch, pinch, pinch…
The boats on the sea go toot, toot, toot…

Five Little Fishies Swimming in the Sea

Five little fishies, swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark, “You can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr. Shark, quiet as can be
And snatches that fish right out of the sea!
(continue counting down)

The Big Fish

There was a big fish.
He lived in the sea.
He swam in the waves.
He jumped past the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn’t catch me.

I Went to the Beach

I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A bird on the sand
Looking at me!

I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A fish in the water (move hands like a fish)
Splashing at me! (make splashing motions)

I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A shell in the sand
Sparkling at me!

I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A crab in its shell
Waving at me!

We hope to see you at storytime!
