“If You’re a Kitten and You Know It”

If you’re a kitty and you know it lick your paws. (pretend to lick paws)
If you’re a kitty and you know it lick your paws.
If you’re a kitty and you know it then your face will surely show it.
If you’re a kitty and you know it lick your paws.

Continue with:
…show your claws (show claws)
…swish your tail (wiggle bottom)
…say “Meow!”

Hey Diddle Diddle Bouncing Rhyme

Hey Diddle Diddle, the cat and the fiddle.
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed, to see such a sight.
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Two Little Cats Fingerplay

Two little cats sitting on my windowsill,
One names Jack and one named Jill.
Run away, Jack! Run away, Jill!
Come back, Jack! Come back, Jill!

Literacy Tip: Playing with Sounds

Hearing and making animal sounds helps your child hear different kinds of sounds in language.

Down Around the Corner

Down around the corner at my mom’s pet store
were five little kitties, and not one more.
Along came someone with a nickel to pay
and they bought the little kitty and they took it away. (continue counting down)

Tiptoe Soft by Margaret Hillert

Tiptoe soft as a pussycat,
Soft on little cat feet.
Flap your wings like a baby bird.
Open your beak for a treat.
Clomp, clomp, clomp like a big old horse.
Pick up a hoof, and then
Tip, tip tip on the tips of your toes
Soft as a cat again.

I’m a Little Kitty Cat
(Tune: “I’m a little teapot”)

I’m a little kitty cat
Nice and sweet
Here are my whiskers
And here are my feet
When I go out hunting
Mice beware
Or you might just have a scare!

Gray Cat, Gray Cat

Gray cat, gray cat,
Swish your fluffy tail.
Gray cat, gray cat,
Swish your fluffy tail.
Silky ears and velvet paws,
When you’re mad
You show your claws.
Gray cat, Gray cat,
Swish your fluffy tail.

We hope to see you at storytime!
