Our Future Library Leaders

In this month of thankfulness, the Bowman Library would like to show appreciation for our Teen Advisers! On the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. a handful of enthusiastic teenagers join together to help decide which events they believe local teens will enjoy, advise our library on materials for their age group, and volunteer to assist in other activities through the year.

Through helping with our Teen Advisory program, local teens have an opportunity to build life long leadership skills, work in groups, plan and execute ideas, and network with other motivated teens in the area. Furthermore, the teens can assist in other programs to gain needed volunteer hours and learn more about our library programs for all ages.

In addition to regularly scheduled events and displays, our current teen advisers always have creative ideas they love to add to enhance regular activities, such as their planned “Teen Ugly Festive Party” to be held at the Game Night in December. (3rd Friday of each month.) The teens will encourage their peers to attend wearing ugly socks, sweaters, scarves, and shoes to show off their crazy holiday spirit. More information will be forthcoming as the December Game Night approaches.

New to the schedule next month will be a Chess Champs meeting Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. at the Bowman Library, which will be lead by teen chess enthusiasts. December meetings will be the 3rd, 10th, and 17th.

Additional Teen activities include their Anime & Pocky evenings, meeting the 4th Monday of the month at 6:00pm, and a Manga Art & Coloring Club, meeting the 1st and 3rd Monday at 5:30pm.

Don’t forget NaNoWriMo! Join other teens this month at either Bowman or the Handley Branch. For more information, you can see our post on National Novel Writing Month.

Call Donna Hughes, 869-9000 x215, to request more information and to apply for a teen leadership position.
