Chang'e Flying to the Moon (Ren Shuai Ying).jpgYesterday, Bowman Library hosted our second annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival in partnership with the ABC Mandarin School of Winchester.  The festivities included stations for making Jade Rabbit shadow puppets, learning to write in Mandarin Chinese calligraphy, making origami, and tasting the traditional festival food:  Mooncakes.

Students from the ABC Mandarin School of Winchester performed an original shadow puppetry show written by one of their teachers, Dr. Jay Liu.  The play re-told a traditional Chinese folktale about the Moon Goddess Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit in English and Mandarin. After the play, visitors went outside to view the full moon through a telescope.

Bowman Library Youth Services would like to express our thanks to Jay Liu and Leemin Baumgartner and the students of the ABC Mandarin School for making this festival possible.
