New Programs for Older Kids and Teens!

We have several great opportunities for both children 6-11 and teens 12-18 at all branches of the Handley Regional Library. Here are a few noteworthy events you won’t want to miss in January.

Bowman Library:

After School Art – Wednesday, January 10 @ 5pm for ages 8-14. Learn a blanket stitch to add to appliques, fleece blankets, pillow and ornaments. Supplies limited so register now!

Nature Surprises for Kids – Wednesday, January 17th @ 5pm for children and teens ages 8 and up. This special monthly event is presented by VCE volunteers of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners Association. This month’s theme is “Birds that come and Go” with Tricia Boyd. Registration is required, so click here to sign up now!

Homeschool Libratory, Friday, January 26th @ 2pm. This month’s STEM Libratory will explore animals from Antarctica, particularly PENGUINS! Learn how animals keep warm in this harsh environment. Place your hands in ice water and feel how blubber keeps an empire penguin warm. Explore penguin rocks, smoothed out by thousands of generations of adélie penguins. There will be only one Libratory time each month this season. Registration required and space is limited so register today!

Harry Potter Marathon! Monday, January 29th @ 1pm for all ages. Local schools are out so head to Hogwarts instead to watch Scorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban.

Teen Writer’s Guild will not meet this month because of the holiday but online submissions to the Teen Times are greatly encouraged! Submit a book review, write an article about a HRL teen program, send a description and link for a story you’ve written, poetry, artwork, photos, and anything you’d like to share that may be of interest to other teens at any of our library branches. You can be published in our monthly newsletter! Submit to by January 18th.
