You’ve Got Mail! Storytime @ HRL

You’ve Got Mail! : Storytime songs, books, and games about writing and sending letters!

When you’re a kid, there’s a special thrill to getting a real letter in the mail, just for you.  Encourage your children to write their own notes and letters to friends and relatives, even if they are just writing a scribble in the thank you cards you are sending out after the holidays.

Letters and Mail Picture Books to Share:

You can find these books and more in our catalog under the tag: #dearreader

Letters and Mail Songs, Poems, and Fingerplays to Share:

I’m Gonna Wrap Myself in Paper
I’m gonna wrap myself in paper.
I’m gonna dot myself with glue.
Stick some stamps on top of my head,
I’m gonna mail myself to you.
I’m gonna tie me up in a red string.
I’m gonna tie a blue ribbon too.
Climb up inside my mailbox,
I’m gonna mail myself to you!

Early in the Morning
Early in the morning at 8 o’clock
(hold up 8 fingers)
You can hear the postman knock
(knock fist on palm)
Up jumps Ella (lift baby or have toddler jump)
To open the door
One letter, two letters, three letters, four!

Mailing Letters  (Tune: “The Mulberry Bush”)
This is the way we mail a letter,
Mail a letter, mail a letter.
This is the way we mail a letter,
So early in the morning.
(Other verses: Write a letter, stamp a letter, mail a letter)

The Mail Carrier Song (Tune:  “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
Write, Write, Write your cards
and lots of letters too!
I will bring them to your friends
and they will write back too!

Letter to Grandma
Lick them,
Stamp them
Put them in a box
Hope that Grandma/Grandpa
Loves them a lot! (hug self)

A Tisket, A Tasket
A-tisket, a-tasket,
A green and yellow basket.
I wrote a letter to my love,
And on the way I dropped it.

I dropped it, I dropped it,
And, on the way I dropped it.
A little boy picked it up,
And put it in his pocket.

We hope you can join us for storytime at one of our Handley Regional Library Branches this week!

Check the calendar for the dates and times of storytimes at your local branch library.
