February Programs for Ages 6 and Up

Need a little lift to get through the last of the winter weather? Head to your local library! Below are our opportunities for both children 6-11 and teens 12-18 at all branches of the Handley Regional Library. Here are a few noteworthy events you won’t want to miss in February.

Bowman Library:

Teen Art – Thursday, February 1st @ 5pm for ages 12-18. This month we’ll explore acrylic art!

After School Art – Wednesday, February @ 5pm for ages 8-14. Create some beautiful cards for Valentine’s Day! Supplies limited so register now!

Nature Surprises for Kids – Wednesday, February 21st @ 5pm for children and teens ages 8 and up. This special monthly event is presented by VCE volunteers of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardeners Association. This month’s theme is “Bird Feeding in the Winter” with Russ Watkins. Registration is required, so click here to sign up now!

 

Homeschool Libratory, Friday, January 26th @ 2pm. This month’s STEM Libratory will explore properties of physics with Mini Medieval Siege Weapons! Registration required and space is limited so register today!

Teen Writer’s Guild will meet Monday, February 5th at 6pm. Submit a book review, write an article about a HRL teen program, send a description and link for a story you’ve written, poetry, artwork, photos, and anything you’d like to share that may be of interest to other teens at any of our library branches. You can be published in our monthly newsletter! Meeting attendance is encouraged but not required to participate. Submit to ccostello@handleyregional.org.

Handley Library:

Harry Potter Book Night – Thursday, February 1st @ 4:30pm
Celebrate a night devoted to the Harry Potter books! Join us for a showing of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in the Robinson Auditorium.

Stitch a Story – Saturday,February 10th @ 1pm for ages 9 and up, presented by the Winchester Chapter of the Embroidery Guild of America and stitchers of the Shenandoah Valley Tapestry project. Supplies are limited so registration is required through the library calendar.

Graphic Novel Club – Monday, February 12th @ 6pm for teens 12-18. Enjoy snacks and chat with fellow DC and Marvel fans, along with Four Color Fantasies of Winchester.

Magic the Gathering Club – Saturdays from 3 to 5pm for all ages. Drop-in Magic the Gathering game. Bring your own cards or use cards provided by the library.

Teen Advisory Board – Monday, February 26th @ 4:30 pm for Handley! Hang out, eat snacks, play games, and share ideas for library programs and displays. Contact Christine Forbes at 540-662-9041 x21.
