Spring Storytime

Spring is here!  While the Virginia weather has been teasing us for months now with hints of Spring, this week heralds the return of the real thing.  So too, our storytimes this week are all about celebrating Spring.  What is your favorite book about Spring things?

Spring Songs, Poems, and Fingerplays to Share:

During the Spring
During the Spring, it often showers  [Flutter fingers down.]
Or the sun shines for many hours [Form circle in the air with arms.]
Both are good for the flowers! [Cup each hand and extend arms like flowers.]

Ten little leaf buds
Ten little leaf buds growing on a tree (fingers are buds)
Curled up as tightly as can be (curl fingers up into fists)
See them keeping snug and warm,
During the winters cold and storm. (snuggle fist under fist)
Now along comes windy March,
With his breath now soft, now harsh.
First he swings them roughly so (swing fists back and forth)
Then more gently to and fro (swing tenderly)
‘Til the raindrops from the skies (stretch arms high, bring down to floor, tapping fingers as rain)
Falling pitter, patter-wise (repeat previous action)
Open wide the leaf bud’s eyes. (arms outstretched, open fists and spread fingers at the word “eyes”)

Cheer up!
The robin came and sang
Cheer-up, cheer-up, cheer-up
The robin came and sang
Cheer-up, cheer-up, cheer-up
The robin came and sang
Cheer-up, cheer-up, cheer-up
Spring is here, spring is in the air!

Little Robin Redbreast
Little robin redbreast
Sat upon a rail
Niddle noodle went his head (nod head)
Wiggle waggle went his tail (shake tail)

Watch It Bloom
Here is a green leaf (hold up palm)
And here is a green leaf (hold up other palm)
That, you see, makes two. (hold up two fingers)
Here is a bud (cup hands together)
That makes a flower; (begin opening hands)
Watch it bloom for you! (slowly open hands)

It Is Spring Time To the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”
It is spring time.
It is spring time.
Winter’s gone!
Winter’s gone!
Soon it will be summer.
Soon it will be summer.
It won’t be long.
It won’t be long.

Flowers are blooming,
Flowers are blooming,
Spring is here!
Spring is here!
Soon it will be summer.
Soon it will be summer.
It won’t be long.
It won’t be long.

Birds are singing
Birds are singing
Spring is here!
Spring is here!
Soon it will be summer.
Soon it will be summer.
It won’t be long.
It won’t be long.
